Dr Andrey Vilkin has been following the path of karate for 47 years (since 1976). 
The first mentor is O. Kirienko. 
 
Studied with Japanese and European karate masters: H. Kanazawa,  K. Enoeda, T. Asai, T. Kaze, T. Okazaki, H. Ochi, S. Kato, H. Shirai,   H. Kasuya, M. Kagawa, K. Funakoshi, M. Murakami, T. Tanaka, T. Namiki, Y. Saito, C. Putt, A. Oliva-Seba, M. Manini, V. Galan, C. Basilia, and others. 
 
Head of one of the first in the USSR Minsk experimental karate-do school “Spartiate” (1977-1984), head of the first karate specialization in the USSR at the Belarusian National Technical University (1988-2011). Head of the Belarusian Federation of Shotokan Karate-do (since 1991), head coach of the national team of Belarus (since 1992), master of sports (1994), judge of the highest national (1994) and international categories (1997), Honored Coach of the Republic of Belarus (1999), associate professor majoring in pedagogy (2006), seventh dan in Shotokan karate-do (2009). 
 
Honorary member of the Belarusian Union of Athletes (2005). Member of the Executive Board of the International Federation of Shotokan Karate-do of the United Nations (SKDUN). Vice-President of the World Karate Confederation (WKC/FW). Awarded a silver medal from the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements (1988), breastplates “For special merits in the development of Shotokan karate-do in the Republic of Belarus” (2006), “For the development of physical culture and sports in the Republic of Belarus” (2009). 
 
Bronze medalist of the World Championship (1997), champion of Belarus, winner of international competitions in Shotokan karate-do. 
 
Under his leadership, the national teams of Belarus, performing in 1993-2023 at 96 championships (championships, cups) of the world, Europe, Asia in Shotokan karate-do (ESKA/WSKA, FSKA, JKA WF, SKDUN, SKIF, WKC, WKC/FW , WSKU/WSF, WSKF, WTKA, WUKO/WUKF) in 35 countries on five continents, were among the top three in the national standings 36 times (became the best 6 times), won 1262 medals in program sections, including 458 gold. 
 
The team of the Belarusian National Technical University in karate WKF under the leadership of Dr Andrey Vilkin won the overall standings at the Republican Universiade and the two previous championships of Belarus among students (1997-2011) for 15 years in a row.
