Great training today at December’s SKDUN international course.
The first hour was taken by Serge Trappeniers sensei from Belgium who focused on breathing. In particular the importance of breathing with the hara and not the shoulders. This was then applied to various punching combinations to ensure that each technique is executed with the correct timing to encourage “ikken hissatsu”.
In the second hour Colin Putt sensei led the group through kata Jion, stressing the importance of the correct use of the body throughout. This was emphasised by the correct use of shomen and hamni through the kata and the importance of understanding jiku-ashi and correct weight distribution. Sensei also looked at some of the variations one might see due to differences in association.
The session ended with kumite drills that brought all of the key points of today’s training together.
It was great to see so many karate-ka from around the world joining in with us today, great spirit was shown throughout.
We wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you all in 2021. If you are interested in taking part, all of our online training is free and all are welcome to join.
